K9 Units: Joint training for the Air Force's Dog Centre and the Carabinieri for the Air Force

Friday 8 November saw the conclusion of a workshop Training for the Italian Air Force's canine units. The training activity, lasting one week, took place at the’Grosseto Military Airport (GR), home of the 4th Wing and the Canine Centre, and also saw the participation of Canine units from the Carabinieri for AM.

The training, aimed at the Armed Forces' canine units, placed particular emphasis on the sensitive activity of explosive detection.. The operations involved the identification of various explosive substances and their use in different scenarios.

Indeed, the dog units of the Air Force, together with those of the Carabinieri, were used for the research into explosives on vehicles, on aircraft, within materials and for their detection within aeronautical infrastructure.

The activities undertaken have facilitated a fruitful exchange of knowledge and skills within the specific sector, aiming to increase interoperability among the various stakeholders involved to ensure efficient and effective deployment for the Armed Forces and for the community.

It Military Aviation Dog Centre In Grosseto (GR), it is the reference centre for the Armed Force concerning canine matters and is subordinate to the 16th Wing “Force Protection” of Martina Franca (TA). The Centre is involved in the selection of personnel and dogs, their training and the deployment of canine units trained to search for explosives both in national territory and in Operations Outside National Borders. The canine units are deployed in major national and international operations, such as the support of the Italian Armed Forces during the recent Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
