Among the training missions included in the exercise scenario are SMI, slow movers interception missions. The Italian Air Force assets participating in Vega 2018, which is part of the Joint Stars 2018, ", they are also training in flight missions to intercept low-speed aircraft, in technical jargon" Interception of slow movers.

Helicopters HH-101, HH-139A, HH212, Predator, Eurofighter, Air riflemen and an air defence mobile radar deployment are just some of the Italian Air Force assets that, together with other Armed Forces components, are training to intercept low-altitude aircraft, simulated by a SIAI 208 or an NH500. The scenarios envisaged are diverse and complex; training involves intercepting an aircraft or helicopter proceeding at limited speed and altitude that could represent a security threat.

The training scenarios have been designed to be as realistic as possible to real-world needs; indeed, the Air Force and the Armed Forces are increasingly called upon to make a significant contribution within the security framework linked to major events. The G7 in Taormina or the Jubilee are just some examples of events that have seen the Armed Forces operating alongside public security agencies.
