The meeting took place in Bari, the headquarters of the Air Force Schools Command/3rd Air Region. On April 18 and 19, the first meeting was held at the Air Force Schools Command/3rd Air Region Headquarters (C.S.A.M./3^R.A.) in Bari. The purpose of the meeting was to share experiences, issues, ways of acting, and short- and medium-term programs within the public information and communication activities of the C.S.A.M./3^R.A. and its affiliated entities. Furthermore, it was an opportunity to present the “Guidelines on Communications of the Air Force for the year 2018” and those of the CSAM/3^R.A. – recently approved. The work began in the early afternoon of April 18th with the introduction by Major Carmelo Frattaruolo, head of the public information and communication section of the CSAM/3ªR.A. He – after welcoming all the participants – emphasized the importance of public information “which has as its primary task the citizens” legitimate right to be informed and, for us experts in public information, the daily duty to make our public institution and the ethical and moral values that characterize it known.“ During the day of April 19, the work continued with the intervention of Air Force General Umberto Baldi, Commander of the C.S.A.M./3rd R.A., who – in his address of greeting – wished to emphasize the importance of the role of public information, which ”must increasingly be based on principles of consistency and transparency to enhance the credibility and reputation of the Armed Forces and, more generally, of the public institutions that serve the country.“ The activities continued with the presence of Dr. Enzo Tamborra, editor-in-chief of Telebari and collaborator of SKY and Repubblica, who, in his speech, provided a concrete overview of the various fields and tools of today’s journalistic and communication information, highlighting the strong – and increasingly growing – evolution of the media. The intervention provided the starting point for an interesting discussion, representing a moment of growth for those involved who had the opportunity to directly confront the reality of journalism, which is daily engaged in serving as a conduit for public information to the citizens. To conclude the ”two days,“ Captain Orlando Fantozzi, representative of the Public Information Office of the Air Force General Staff, took the opportunity of the presence of all the specialists in the field of the C.S.A.M./3rd R.A. to hold an open discussion on the concrete issues and methodologies of Public Information in AM, highlighting the importance of ”teamwork“ as a synergistic instrument for providing correct, necessary, and effective information to citizens.
