At Amendola, the international F35 community shared training and operational experiences, also interacting with aircraft of previous generations. The 32nd Wing, based at Amendola (Foggia), is one of the Italian Air Force's flying units, reporting to the Air Squadra Command in Rome via the Combat Forces Command in Milan. The first unit in Europe to acquire F-35 aircraft, it also carries out operational, training, and technical activities for Predator remotely piloted aircraft, with the aim of acquiring and maintaining the capability to conduct national and coalition ISTAR operations. Furthermore, through MB-339 aircraft, it provides and completes the training of RPA pilots to ensure an adequate training level on conventionally piloted aircraft. Since March 2018, F35 aircraft from the 32nd Wing of Amendola have also been integrated into the air defence system, contributing with specific operational capabilities and the latest generation technology to the defence of Italian skies.
