Trasporto di emergenza: aereo dell’Aeronautica Militare trasferisce uomo di 72 anni da Catanzaro a Palermo

A Falcon 50 from the 31st Wing of Ciampino allowed the patient to be admitted to the ARNAS Specialized Hospital Company in Palermo in a short time.

The emergency medical transport of a 72-year-old patient was completed last night, from Lamezia Terme airport to Palermo-Punta Raisi airport, carried out with a Falcon 50 military transport aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force.

The medical flight enabled the rapid transfer of the man from the Renato Dulbecco University Hospital Company of Catanzaro, where he was hospitalised, to the ARNAS Civico Specialist Hospital Company of Palermo.

The flight, defined in this case as “IPV – Imminent Danger to Life”, was activated at the request of the Prefecture of Catanzaro to the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squadron Command, the operations room of the Italian Air Force which, among its tasks, also includes activating and managing urgent medical transport. This immediately involved the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the Units that provides operational readiness for this type of mission. Once they arrived at the destination airport, an ambulance was already waiting to transfer the patient to hospital. After all the necessary procedures were carried out by the military crew, the aircraft departed for Ciampino, to resume its operational readiness service.

The Italian Air Force's Flying Departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of transporting patients, organs, medical teams, and ambulances, even in complex weather conditions.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for these types of operations, by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
