Capt. Marfia of the Italian Air Force leads the team of experts that has discovered a biomarker capable of predicting disease severity in individuals suffering from Covid-19 Born in Milan, one of the cities hardest hit by the pandemic, is the study that leads to the identification of sphingosine-1-phosphate as a molecule that plays a key role in SARS-CoV-2 infection. The research carried out by a multidisciplinary team of experts, led by theCaptainGiovanni Marfiaand coordinated byStefano CentannieLaura Riboni,it is the result of an ongoing collaboration between’University of Milan, thePolyclinic of Milanand the’Italian Air Forcewith the Milan Institute of Aerospace Medicine.
