Italian Air Force, Air Rescue: six-day-old baby in life-threatening condition transported from Cagliari to Milan

The urgent medical flight, requested by the Prefecture of Cagliari, was carried out with a Falcon 50 from the 31st Wing.

A six-day-old baby, requiring urgent specialist care, was transported from Cagliari to Milan this late morning aboard a Falcon 50, aircraft of the 31st Wing of the’Italian Air Force, based in Ciampino.

The little one, admitted to the Monserrato University Polyclinic “Duilio Casula” of Cagliari, This allowed them to reach the San Donato IRCCS Polyclinic in a very short time. Milan, accompanied by his father and a medical team for in-flight assistance.

The Air Force aircraft, which departed from Ciampino military airport at around 11:30, reached Cagliari-Elmas airport after approximately an hour of flight. Once the boarding procedures for the patient and their companions were completed, the Falcon 50 it finally landed at Milan-Linate Airport around 1:30 PM. From here, the newborn was able to reach the Milanese hospital, thanks to an ambulance that was waiting for him on site, to be immediately entrusted to the specific care he required.

The urgent flight, requested by Cagliari Prefecture, it was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squadron Command, the operations room of the Italian Air Force, which also has the task of activating and managing Urgent medical transport, giving the order to take off to the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready at various bases across Italy.

It 31st Wing of Ciampino It is, in fact, only one of the flying departments that the Armed Force assures to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews ready to take off at short notice for this type of mission.

Crews and transport aircraft of the Air Force are operational every single day of the year to ensure, where requested and deemed necessary for reasons of urgency, the medical transport of individuals imminent danger to life, of organs the medical teams or, as in this case, people needing transfer to specialised care centres within the national territory. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of mission, supporting citizens, by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, of 14th Practice Wing of Pratica di Mare And of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa. Where there are specific operational needs, the Italian Air Force also employs helicopters from the 15th Air Wing of Cervia.
