Sport, Run4Hope Italia 2024: solidarity running race sponsored by the Defence Staff and the Air Force concludes

The Run4Hope road race, dedicated to fundraising for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma research for the charity AIL, has touched all Italian regions.

Starting on Saturday, April 13th, the fourth edition of the tournament concluded on Sunday, the 21st. Run4Hope relay, a charity running race sponsored by the Defence Staff and the Air Force. The aim of the event, which has reached all the Regions of Italy and several Armed Forces Departments located throughout the national territory, has been to have, in a synchronous, ideal and material form, the Witness Run4Hope to collect funding for medical-scientific research for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, in favour of Onlus AIL.

The non-competitive relay race this year saw the participation of around 40,000 runners who covered over 6,000 km across the country, amidst Italy's cultural and traditional riches. The race, which opened simultaneously on Saturday the 13th, was started by some runners from the 4th Brigade of Telecommunications and Systems for Air Defence and Air Traffic Control of Borgo Piave of Aerospace Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico (FE), and of the’80° Search and Rescue (SAR) Centre of Decimomannu 3. Tuesday 16 April was the turn of 15th Air Wing of Cervia, Thursday the 18th of Aviano Airport Command and 31st Fighter Wing and, finally, to close the race on Sunday 21 April, the 1st Air Region Command, which carried the baton to the final stretch, the very central Piazza San Babila in Milan.

The’Italian Air Force, like the other Armed Forces and Armed Corps of the State, has granted the Sponsorship for Run4Hope 2024, espousing the values that the demonstration expresses, such as altruism, solidarity, commitment, but also courage, sense of duty and team spirit, guiding principles to which every citizen in uniform bases their daily work.

Run4Hope it is proposed to combine, year on year, Sport e Solidarity in a unique event in Italy, creating an opportunity to raise funds for medical scientific research and allocating the funds alternately, from 2021 to the present, to’AIRC, Italian Foundation for Cancer Research, and all’AIL for research against leukaemia, lymphomas and myeloma.

AIL – Italian Association against Leukaemias, Lymphomas and Myeloma – is the beneficiary of the runners' donations for 2024. For 55 years, it has been committed to promoting and supporting scientific research for the cure of leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, by funding innovative studies and laboratories throughout Italy, and by raising public awareness in the fight against haematological diseases. The Association assists and supports patients and their families at all stages of their journey, in close contact with the Haematology Centres it continuously supports to best meet the needs of patients and caregivers.
