It Salto di Quirra Interforce Polygon in Perdasdefogu (PISQ) will host the activities of a Health and healthcare research campus which aims to scientifically study the Population longevity of the territory, already, incidentally, in the headlines for its significant concentration of centenarians in relation to its resident population.
The convention that kicks off this important institutional collaboration was signed on September 27th between the’Italian Air Force, represented by Air Brigadier General Davide Marzinotto, Commander of the PISQ, the’State Property Agency, in the person of DrRita Soddu, and the’Association for the Protection of Ogliastrina and Barbagia di Seulo Identity, represented by Dr Flavio Cabitza.
The project, coordinated by Professor Grazia Fenu Pintori, involves the development of a laboratory with cutting-edge instrumentation in the field of scientific research. The initiative, which will be developed under the patronage of Autonomous Region of Sardinia (RAS) and the University of Sassari, given the specificity of the subject and territory, holds significant international scientific interest and falls within the scope of the established shared intentions stemming from Memorandum of Understanding in place between the Ministry of Defence and the RAS, and from the resulting Usage Regulations which contemplate and encourage initiatives in study, research, and technological experimentation. This is a very important initiative for the area, which, moreover, integrates with further projects already underway for the dual use of the Polygon between the Ministry of Defence and the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, and which involve various local realities and bodies.
It Salto di Quirra Joint Experimental and Training Range (PISQ), established in 1956 and dependent on the Logistics Command, operates with personnel from the Armed Forces. It provides advanced training for national and foreign Armed Forces, hosts experimental trials, tests, and development of prototype and experimental systems, and collaborates with national scientific and university bodies, foreign industrial entities, and civilian companies operating in the defence sector and beyond. It also collaborates with institutional bodies, volunteer associations, Civil Protection, Alpine and Speleological Rescue services, Universities, and other entities to ensure training for the joint management of emergencies and territorial protection, and for the synergistic development of dual-use projects in the field of technological research and development. It fosters the development of collaborations in the space sector with the Sardinia Aerospace District and with CRS4.Centre for Research, Development and Higher Studies in Sardinia. With sensors located within its territory, it is an integral part of the European programme for monitoring space debris, called Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST). Thanks to the OTI programme (Operational Training Infrastructureis positioned as a centre of excellence for the advanced training of 5th generation flight platforms and for their multi-role integration in increasingly challenging realistic and complex scenarios.
