From 11 to 13 September at Linate Military Airport, a team of researchers comprised of doctors and nurses of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Milan, with the collaboration of the Central Laboratory Polyclinic of Milan and the involvement of staff from the Remote Piloted Aircraft Centre of Excellence, Amendola, conducted an experiment aimed at exploring the potential use of drones in the medical field, and in particular, the transport of biological samples through labs.

The’experiment, carried out via night flights, saw the use of two Air Force drones and laid the groundwork for new prospects in the healthcare sector, through the safe and rapid transport of biological samples between laboratories, in situations of particular emergency, such as natural disasters or epidemics.

This is an interdisciplinary collaboration that marks the beginning of a new chapter in the evolution of’Healthcare and the ever-increasing role of drones in this field. All with the aim of making assistance ever more effective and accessible.

The’Institute of Aerospace MedicineImas It is responsible for controlling the psychophysical fitness for flight of navigating personnel of the Air Force and other Armed Forces and State Armed Corps, as well as of civilian aircrew, contributing, in its areas of responsibility, to ensuring the safety of military and civil flight. The Institute also promotes constant integration with centres of excellence in civilian healthcare, encouraging the dissemination of aeronautical medicine, aiming to be a point of reference in the sector, and maintaining constant and effective contact with the healthcare world in the broadest sense.
