It took place on Thursday 7 September, inside the South hangar of the’Galatina Airport “F. Cesari”, the handover ceremony of the Direction of 10th Aircraft Maintenance Department. The ceremony was presided over by General Inspector Cristiano Bandini, Commander of the 2nd Division of the Italian Air Force Logistical Command.

It Colonel Fabio Cerase, who took over the leadership of the Department just over two years ago, thanked the men and women of the 10th RMV for their commitment and dedication shown in his speech. “Together, we have overcome the fear of Covid; in times of impositions and disagreements, we have managed to maintain discipline and unity, completing our tasks,” he stated, emphasising the team spirit and cohesion of the Department's personnel. Furthermore, he underscored his pride in having belonged to a Department that “has continuously carried out its duties, positioning itself even more assertively as the benchmark technical department for the management and maintenance of training fleets for aircrew”.”.

It Colonel Roberto Ambra, the incoming Director, comes from the Regular Courses of the Air Force Academy, holds a degree in Computer Engineering, and has obtained the qualification of Systems Test Engineer.

In his speech, after thanking the Superior Authorities for the trust placed in him by conferring the prestigious role of Director of the 10th RMV, he focused on future challenges, “which will require a significant effort from the Department to create the necessary organisational and infrastructural conditions”. He also reiterated that challenges can be met by relying mainly on the competence, passion, and teamwork of all staff, who represent the most valuable resource. He finally assured his commitment to strengthening the strong bond that exists between the 10th RMV, the Institutions, and Salento, which has always hosted the Department. “I will endeavour to reinvigorate and strengthen the long-established ties and relationships through the work of my illustrious predecessors.”.

It General Inspector Cristiano Bandini, after greeting and thanking the Authorities present at the ceremony, he underscored the great commitment shown by Colonel Cerase, praising the results achieved in the initial phase of the’International Flight Training School at Decimomannu and in activities related to the training and employment of future aeronautical maintenance personnel. Specifically, the progressive reduction in A.M. human resources, and the ever-increasing sophistication and complexity of the weapon systems in service, make the use of new technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and blockchain unavoidable in aircraft maintenance. In this context, Col. Cerase and the 10th RMV have provided maximum support and have been directly involved in projects included in the National Military Research Plan. This is the new frontier and the 10th RMV has already embarked on this exciting journey.

He finally wished Colonel Ambra well, for whom he has profound esteem, saying he is certain that he will certainly be up to the task ahead of him.
