Thursday 17 August the Experimental and Standardisation Section Aerial Shooting, M.O. Pil. Giovanni Farina Military Airport (RSSTA) of Decimomannu, was interested by the visit of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Force General Luca Goretti.
General Goretti was received by the Head of Department, Colonel Federico Pellegrini, who updated him on the operational and logistical evolution of the Airport in line with the’International Flight Training School (IFTS).
The visit continued at the Campus IFTS, where the Chief of Staff of the Army met the Managing Director from Leonardo CAE Advanced Jet Training, Engineer Giovanni Basile and the Commander of the 212th Flying Group IFTS, Lieutenant Colonel Tommaso De Salvo, who have illustrated the progress of the technical and operational activities of the courses of the Flying School.
Gen. S.A. Goretti, at the end of the visit, stated he was “It's good to be back at an important department like the RSSTA.”, thanking Colonel Pellegrini and his men“for how they managed to turn a project into a tangible reality”, highlighting the significant progress made at the IFTS Campus and calling for the project's development to proceed without delay.
The’ Decimomannu Military Airfield, ..., the base of the Experimental and Standardisation Department of Aerial Gunnery (R.S.S.T.A), is hierarchically subordinate to the Joint Experimental and Training Range of Salto di Quirra (Perdasdefogu), to the Air Force Command for the Autonomous Region of Sardinia (CAMRAS), for garrison and coordination functions with other Air Force entities present on the island.
The R.S.S.T.A Commander is in charge of the Alghero Airport Detachment, the Capo Frasca firing range, the Serrenti Armaments Depot Section, and the Teleposts (Weather) at Capo Bellavista, Capo Caccia, and Capo Carbonara, which are located outside the Decimomannu airport premises.
It R.S.S.T.A. coordinates, manages and controls the flight activities of the Air Force Departments, of the other Armed Forces and of Allied Countries, also guaranteeing logistical/administrative support. It is the seat of the’80° Centre Search and Rescue And of the International Flight Training School (I.F.T.S.), excellence in the field of’Advanced flight training, a result of the partnership between the Italian Air Force and Leonardo S.p.a.
