The Air Force Commissariat Corps is celebrating the centenary of its establishment
On Monday 31 July, the centenary was celebrated of the Aeronautical Commissary Corps, established by a Commissarial Decree published in the Official Gazette of the Kingdom of Italy No 198 of 23 August 1923. A glorious past that is intertwined with that of the Italian Air Force itself, which was created as an independent Armed Force a few months earlier, on 28 March 1923.
“An anniversary of the highest symbolic value, necessarily contemporaneous with the founding year of the Italian Air Force, since the institutional duties entrusted to our prestigious Corps act as an essential safeguard for the efficiency and full operational readiness of the entire Armed Force”These are the words of the Head of the Air Force Commissariat Corps, Inspector General Walter Maria Li Greci, in the message of good wishes addressed to the personnel of the Corps. Referring then to the delicate role that the modern military instrument requires of the men and women of the Commissariat Corps, both on national territory and in the volatile international context, he continued thus: “I address each of you, urging you to ensure that exemplary conduct, a strong institutional sensitivity, an unwavering motivational drive and a firm adherence to the values of generosity and mutual respect never cease to define your personal and professional journey, even in a quiet manner and far from the spotlight.”.
The Head of the Commissary Corps is the Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force for all matters concerning the Corps, with particular regard to training and employment profiles of personnel, as well as for technical matters within its remit.
It Aeronautical Commissary Corps it exercises managerial, inspection, logistical, technical, administrative and accounting functions for cash services, catering, clothing and equipment, barrack accommodation as well as other general supplies; it carries out study, research and technical development activities in sectors of specific interest and performs functions in legal, economic and financial matters; it holds positions provided for by regulations. The Air Force Commissary Corps oversees the technical and administrative operation of air force commissary directorates, air zone commands and Air Force commands; and of various warehouses and establishments.
