Schooling and advanced training: the Commander of the US Air Education And Training Command visits the military airport of Decimomannu

The visit of the American Commander took place at the Experimental and Standardization Department of Air Shooting at Decimomannu, the International Flight Training School and the Inter-Service Experimental and Training Field of Salto at Quirra.

On July 10 the Commander of the’Air Education and Training Command USA, Lieutenant General Brian S. Robinson, He visited the military airport “M.O. Giovanni Farina” in Decimomannu. The authority was received by Commander of the AM Schools and the 3rd Air Region, Air Force General Silvano Frigerio, From the Commander of the Air Academy, Gen. D.A. Luigi Casali, from the Commander of the P.I.S.Q. General B.A. Davide Marzinotto and from the Commander of the base, Colonel Federico Pellegrini.

After the initial visit of Campus of the International Flight Training School (IFTS), This was followed by a general briefing on the organization of the military airport of Decimomannu by the Commander, followed by an explanatory briefing by the President of the Udp IFTS General B.A. Edi Turco on the school’s training program and future developments in advanced training.

General Robinson then continued the visit to Computer-based training, At Flight Rooms, To the simulators and Hangar, Hangarette and sunshelters at the 212th Flight Group/IFTS of the 61st Wing of Galatina where he was able to directly observe the instruments and infrastructure dedicated to’Advanced training phase 4 of pilots destined for the 4th and 5th generation aerotactic lines of the Air Force and partner countries.

In the second part of the day, the delegation, aboard a HH-139 helicopter made available by the’80° Centre Search and ReRescue units of the 15th Squadron of Cervia, She moved to Polígono Interforças Salto de Quirra (PISQ) where a preliminary reconnaissance flight was conducted of the operational and training areas of greatest value and interest related to the development of programs in the field of training, research, and development. At the conclusion of the same, the Commander of the P.I.S.Q. detailed the innovations implemented within the program. OT&I (Operational Training Infrastructure) strongly oriented towards the acquisition of simulation systems and the reproduction of realistic scenarios for’training of 5th generation platforms and the integrated multi-domain training among all the Armed Forces. As a final touch, the visit to the PISQ Operations Room and the signing of the honorary certificate.

General Robinson, pleasantly impressed by the sights he visited, thanked for the hospitality and for the opportunity to be able to observe directly an Italian excellence of international value, wishing the continuation of full cooperation and in the future.’joint training Between the American and Italian Air Forces in the growth of aerospace power.

The’ Decimomannu Military Airfield, The Department of Experimental and Standardization Air Shooting (R.S.S.T.A.) is hierarchically subordinate to the Inter-Service Experimental and Training Range of Salto di Quirra (Perdasdefogu), to the Air Military Command for the Autonomous Region of Sardinia (CAMRAS), for the presidial and coordination functions with the other AM agencies present on the island. The Department’s technological equipment includes the modern system AACMI (Autonomous Air Combat Manoeuvering Instrumentation). Thanks to important technical updates, the Department enables the development and use of cutting-edge technologies. Since its establishment to date, prototypes of important aircraft have been tested, such as the Tornado, the Eurofighter, the T-346 and the F-35, projecting the base into the world of 5th generation systems.
The RSSTA houses the headquarters of the’International Flight Training School (I.F.T.S) and it guarantees the logistical and operational management., as a reality that was created for the advanced training (4th phase, pre-operational) of pilots destined for the air tactical lines of the AM or of other Partner Countries with the aim of becoming a point of reference worldwide in the provision of advanced training to the air forces, to the Flight Departments of the Air Force, the other Air Force Branches and the Allied Countries.

It Salto di Quirra Joint Interforces Experimental and Training Polygon (PISQ), Established in 1956, it operates with personnel from the Italian Fire Service and ensures the advanced training of national and foreign Armed Forces, in addition to hosting the execution of experimental tests, tests and the development of prototype and experimental systems, and collaborating with national scientific and university institutions, foreign industrial entities and civil society organizations operating in the defense and non-defense sectors. It also collaborates with institutional entities, voluntary associations, Civil Protection, Alpine and speleological rescue and other organizations in order to ensure training for the ability to manage joint emergencies and protect the territory, as well as for the synergistic development of projects of dual value. It also promotes the development of collaborations in the civil research sector, with the Aerospace District of Sardinia and with the CRSS (Research, Development and Higher Studies Center in Sardinia). With the sensors deployed in its territory, it is an integral part of the European program for the monitoring of debris and space objects called Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST).
Thanks to the program OTI (Operational Training Infrastructure), It serves as a center of excellence for advanced training of 5th-generation flight platforms and for the multi-role integration of these platforms in increasingly challenging realistic scenarios.
