The Commander of AIRCOM at Ramstein visited the NATO air forces stationed at the Romanian airport of Constanța, where the Italian unit engaged in enhanced Vigilance Activity operations operates.
Wednesday 25 May, Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigian, a US official leading the’Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) in Ramstein, during the allied air forces' visit programme in Romania, contributing to the strengthening of the deterrence posture on the eastern flank of the NATO, travelled to the Romanian airbase of Mihail Kogălniceanu, Constanța, where the Italian contingent is currently deployed Task Force Air – Romania “Black Storm” (TFA-R).
The operational activity of the TFA-R in support of the mission of Enhanced Vigilance Activity (eVA) of NATO, is in fact under the operational control of AIRCOM, which exercises it through the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) di Torrejon e dei Control and Reporting Centre (CRC) from time to time competent.
Based in Constance, in addition to the Italian air forces engaged in activities of Combat Air Patrol (CAP) of the Romanian borders falling within the eVA mission, a British component also operates, to which TFA-R transferred responsibility for the service in April Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) within the framework of the NATO mission enhanced Air Policing (eAP).
During the visit, the US general was accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Air Force, Gen. Viorel Pana, and met with the commanders of the contingents under their command and control, subsequently proceeding to the flight line where the aircraft are deployed Eurofighter of the TFA-R employed in eVA activities, for a brief illustration of operational capabilities.
The eight aircraft and their crews come from all the Air Wings of the’Italian Air Force operating domestically with this weapon system.
